D.B.L. DISPOSAL SERVICES – A MID-ISLAND FAMILY TRADITION

In the small community of Wellington in 1954, Henry T. Jones started hauling waste. He hauled everything from farming garbage to coal ash from Nelson Linen. This service spread into multi-truck routes with contracts with the regional district. This continued until the mid-1980s when Norm Jones, the son of Henry Jones, sold off the residential and front-load container services to a multi-national company. By this time, Norm had expanded the business into a 13-truck operation with roll-off, front-load and house-to-house pick up services.

COMPANY REBORN IN TRUE JONES FAMILY FASHION

After the buyout, Norm was left with two roll-off trucks. This was the end of H.T. Jones & Sons Garbage Services and the beginning of the Jones Disposal Services Ltd. era. In true family fashion, with the support of his wife Louisa, Norm spent the next 10 years building his two-truck roll-off business into a 15-truck operation. He had everything from 53-foot transfer trucks and wood waste grinders. Jones Disposal Services offered mini-bin service as well as residential and front-load services. In 1996, Norm was approached by another multi-national company to purchase the entire Jones operation. After a great deal of deliberation, he reluctantly decided to sell.

D.B.L. DISPOSAL SERVICES STARTED WITH ONE ROLL-OFF TRUCK

A few short weeks later, Norm’s sons Dean and Brad were let go from the new-to-the-town waste giant. With a fistful of industry knowledge, the family purchased one roll-off truck and four roll-off containers. Since then, D.B.L. Disposal Services, with a few different divisions such as Jones Sanitation & Site Services, has grown into a 76-truck operation offering a multitude of services.
